Collective Soul plots spring, summer dates - Alt-rockers Collective Soul [ tickets will remain on the road throughout much of 2010 in support of the band's most recent studio album, an eponymous set issued last fall. The outing continues March 13 in Orlando, FL, and the group shows dates lined up through October, including a steady stream of festivals and fairs over the summer months. Details are included at right. The Atlanta-based outfit continues to support last year's self-titled effort, informally known as "Rabbit," the band's eighth studio set and first since 2007's "Afterwords." The 11-track album, which marked the group's debut for the Loud & Proud/Roadrunner label, is the band's first to feature songs--"You" and "Understanding"--written by all the members of the group. "Everybody just really took a big step, dug in, and worked together as a band. It was really nice," lead singer/guitarist/keyboardist Ed Roland said in a press release. "It made everything smoother and that's why I think it's the best work we've done in years." The multi-platinum rockers have had several tracks make it to the big screen in recent months. "Hollywood," a cut from the band's 2007 release "Afterwords," was featured on the soundtrack to the tween blockbuster "Twilight," while season-seven "American Idol" winner David Cook performed the rockers' 1995 hit "The World I Know" near the season's end. 'Neil Young Trunk Show' debuts later this month - A 20-minute version of "No Hidden Path" is the centerpiece of Jonathan Demme's "Neil Young [ tickets Trunk Show," a concert film that documents two nights at Philadelphia's Tower Theatre on Young's 2007 tour. Demme's first Young film, "Heart of Gold," is similar only in that it, too, was shot over two nights--at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. The new film, which screens in the US beginning March 19 but does not yet have a Blu-Ray/DVD release date, has a far greater stylistic mix and less of a unifying theme as a hook. Young's tour at the time was for "Chrome Dreams II," an album of electric and acoustic songs that had its roots in a shelved album the mid-1980s; "Heart of Gold" drew a throughline from Young's biggest hit and more mellow, recent acoustic works. "Trunk Show" is a guitar film. The songs, save for "Cinnamon Girl," "Like a Hurricane" and "Cowgirl in the Sand," are largely obscure, and a few--"Sad Movies," "Kansas" and "Mexico"--even had longtime Young fans befuddled when they made their way into set lists on the tour. There's little time spent with backstage or travel scenes; this is about the performance from the perspective of the front row, the drum kit and the stage hands. Demme holds shots for lengthy periods, adding extra focus on the performance. Shows on that tour were divided between acoustic and electric sets; the film mixes and matches to hold the viewer's interest. In all, the event will stop by 28 North American cities before wrapping up June 14 in Atlanta. Puddle of Mudd spends spring promoting 'Love & Hate' - Alt-rockers Puddle of Mudd [ tickets will spend much of the spring touring the western portion of the US behind their fourth studio set, last year's "Volume 4: Songs in the Key of Love & Hate." The Los Angeles-based band will kick off the run with an April 1 performance in Anaheim, CA, followed by three more shows throughout the state. The trek then moves east, visiting theaters and clubs in 14 cities before wrapping up June 30 in Milwaukee. The full itinerary is shown at right. "Volume 4: Songs in the Key of Love & Hate," the follow-up to POM's 2007 release, "Famous," surfaced in December. The group recorded the album in Vancouver and Los Angeles with producers Brian Howes, John Kurzweg--both of whom helped on previous albums--and Brian Virtue. Petro Papahadjopoulos created the video for the album's lead single, "Spaceship," which included guest appearances by Nitro Circus, a.k.a. action-sport legends Travis Pastrana, Jolene Van Vugt, Jim DeChamp, Andy Bell, Erik Roner, "Streetbike" Tommy Passemante, Jeremy Rawle, Gregg Godfrey and Hubert Rowland. Puddle of Mudd recently contributed a track entitled "Shook Up The World" to the Team USA Winter Olympics soundtrack, which is currently available for download via iTunes. Proceeds from the track went to Team USA. "Being a part of this collection of great artists in support of Team USA is inspiring," frontman Wes Scantlin said in a statement posted at the band's website . "But the greatest reward is knowing that our contribution will help athletes achieve their dreams of Olympic Gold now and into the future." Elton John maps spring solo dates with band - Though he evidently expected to be on the road with Billy Joel this summer, Elton John [ tickets has instead lined up a full-band trek across the US and Europe for later this year. John's full-band outing kicks off April 9 in Lubbock, TX, and runs through a May 1 show in Youngstown, OH. Full ticketing information, including John's overseas itinerary, can be found at the singer's website. Following months of postponements and cancellations involving dates on last year's joint Face 2 Face Tour, John and Joel have since been making good on many of the missed gigs. The longtime musical pals will make one more appearance--tonight (3/11) in Albany, NY--before bringing the curtain down on the arrangement for the foreseeable future. "As far as I know, there will be no more Billy and Elton shows after the Albany show in New York on March 11th," John said during an interview last month with WGN-TV in Chicago. "It's not my decision, it's Billy's," John said. "He has decided to take a year off. It doesn't gel with my plans but he's a friend. And as an artist, you have to respect his decision." Joel later told Rolling Stone that rumors about a 2010 summer tour were apparently leaked by insiders at venues where booking agents had inquired about available dates for a possible Joel/John show. Joel insisted there is no bad blood between him and John, and said the successful Face to Face tour would probably pick up again in the future. However, he did not say when. The recent outing, which kicked off last spring, was the third time the two men have toured together, following similar jaunts in 1994 and 2003. 'Star Wars: In Concert' schedules new round of US dates - Following an in-progress European leg, the Star Wars in Concert event will return to the States for another round of arena shows. The massive production gets underway May 13 in Estero, FL, continuing on through the South and into the West before concluding with a June 17 performance in Reno. The road trip includes shows in 17 major markets. Details are shown at right. Tickets for the spring concerts go on sale Saturday (3/13) via Ticketmaster. Anthony Daniels, the actor who portrayed C-3PO in the six-part saga, narrates each evening. "We've taken the key themes from the music and cut together all the images that fit with each theme, so you can really get a sense of how the music played into the images," creator George Lucas explained in a press release. Along with the multi-media experience, fans get an up-close look at exclusive exhibits of full costumes, props and production artwork typically housed at Lucas' Skywalker Ranch. "This event has been crafted to present 'Star Wars' from many points of view," touring producer Spencer Churchill said in a press release. "For the first time, the full dramatic sweep of Williams' iconic scores can be heard performed live in one evening. The show is a new way to experience the epic scope of the saga."
