Ben Harper - The well established Ben Harper has captivated thousands across the country, even bigger than that, across the world. He started off with strong influences of folk and blues and then ran with it. He learned to play the slide guitar as a child and finely tuned his style by learning to play the Weissenborn.
Harper is not only known for his guitar skills, he is known for his vocals, song writing, activism, and the best live performances. He was recognized in France’s Rolling Stone for Artist of the Year, and two Grammy Awards for Best Pop Instrumental Performance and Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album.
Presently, Harper is playing with the illustrious Relentless 7 and is having much success. Not too long after the group formed, they released their first album in 2009. Since then, they have appeared on the Daily Show with John Stewart and the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.
Relentless 7 – The American rock group formed a few years ago in 2008. Do not let only a couple of years in the game fool you because the band signed a contract to tour worldwide in April 2009. This can only tell you how much love fans have for the group.
The band consists of Ben Harper (guitar, lead vocalist), Jason Mozersky (lead guitar), Jesse Ingalls (bass), and Jordan Richardson (drums). Their music captures you with their beats and makes sure you can not get away with their deep and highly insightful lyrics. The release of their first album in 2009, White Lies for Dark Times, appeared in Rolling Stone’s "Spring Music Preview: Inside 45 of the Year's Biggest Albums" and appeared number 9 on Billboard Album Charts- Top 200 Albums.
In addition to appearances on the Daily Show with John Stewart and the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, they appeared on Last Call with Carson Daly. They have performed at many notable venues. To name a few: Vic Theatre in Chicago, Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, Webster Hall in New York, Sydney Metro Theatre in Australia, and Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto.
Campus Consciousness Tour – According to Filter Magazine, The Campus Consciousness Tour “exemplifies the best of where modern rock has been, but even more importantly where it should be going.” Ben Harper and Relentless7 will host a series of events on campus (Events TBA). Some events during the day on campus will include educational panes, organized service projects with students, and environmental film screenings.
