Clap Your Hands Say Yeah on hold as frontman tours solo - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah leader Alec Ounsworth [ tickets plans to record an album with his current band rather than begin another CYHSY project after his solo tour ends later this month. For the trek supporting his first solo album, "Mo Beauty," Ounsworth recruited guitarist Matt Sutton and The Teeth's Peter Modavis, Brian Ashby and Jonas Oesterle to back him, taking the place of the New Orleans musicians on the album, who include George Porter Jr., Stanton Moore and Al "Carnival" Johnson. The shows feature the new material, a few Clap Your Hands tunes and songs from Ounsworth's side projects Flashy Python and the Body Snatchers. "In thinking about another record, the guys on the tour have the advantage of working together," he said from Louisiana. "Not to disrespect Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, but I don't think there's enough time for us to get our footing (for a new album). This band keeps getting better and the songs lend themselves to showing off what the individual musicians can do. "I have had conversations in the past (with musicians) where I would push people to work harder on their parts and they didn't respond. There's a reason you remember which David Bowie albums feature Adrian Belew or Carlos Alomar and Robert Quine's work with Richard Hell and Lou Reed and Marc Ribot, regardless of who is playing with. I don't have any problem with guys making suggestions. ... When a musician works at defining a song it takes pressure off me. "The personalities are pretty strong in this lineup. I get to lean on other people." Ounsworth's tour winds up Feb. 25 in Chicago. Details are shown at right. 'Hope for Haiti Now' distributes $35 million - "Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief" will distribute to six beneficiaries the first installment of funds raised by the Jan. 22 telethon. An advisory committee received proposals last week and, after an intensive review process, allocated $35 million, which is slightly more than half of the $66 million in pledged donations, according to a press release. As part of the grant allocations, "HFHN" is providing specific descriptions of how each organization will use funds for relief efforts and immediate rebuilding initiatives. Oxfam America will receive $8 million to build systems for clean water and safe sanitation, deliver shelter and relief supplies, and work on lasting solutions for food security, housing and land issues. Partners in Health will receive $8 million to provide emergency medical assistance and supplies, strengthen the public health system, and provide rehabilitation, social support and economic assistance to survivors. American Red Cross will receive $6 million to supply emergency shelter and non-food relief items to vulnerable families, specifically targeting female-headed households, the disabled, elderly, and the disadvantaged. UNICEF will receive $6 million to coordinate the immediate protection of children, prevent and respond to family separations, support the psychosocial needs of families and children, and prevent child exploitation for trafficking. United Nations World Food Programme will receive $6 million to ensure the distribution of meals and other life-saving food assistance to the most vulnerable earthquake victims in urban and rural areas over the next six months. Yele Haiti Foundation will receive $1 million to promote community mobilization in major under-served neighborhoods to coordinate aid delivery and support recovery efforts. One beneficiary, the newly formed Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, will request funds to go to recovery and rebuilding efforts in the next round of disbursements. All partner organizations will report regularly to "HFHN" on how the funds are being used on the ground in Haiti. Through field reports and real-time updates, the impact of immediate assistance will be closely monitored and assessed each month before additional funds are distributed. Reverend Horton Heat maps spring tour with Cracker - Rockabilly revivalists Reverend Horton Heat [ tickets will embark on a spring tour with Cracker beginning in May, after the band finishes up its own headlining dates over the next few months. The group--led by singer/guitarist Jim Heath, also known as "The Reverend"--kicks off its slate Feb. 25 and 26 in New Orleans. Following a European outing in late March and early April, the band will return home to co-headline a month-long jaunt with Cracker starting May 13 in Kansas City, MO. Dates are at right. Overseas dates can be found at the trio's website . "Laughin' and Cryin' with the Reverend Horton Heat," which surfaced in September on Yep Roc Records, is the band's first new album since 2004's "Revival." "[The record i kind of from a regular guy point of view," Heath said in a press release, noting that the new album veers more toward the "billy" in the "rockabilly" equation than previous efforts. "You know, I like to do stuff that's kind of tongue-in-cheek that makes fun of the good old boy thing as much as trying to glorify the country boy thing." In 2006, the band--which also features longtime upright bassist Jimbo Wallace and drummer more recent addition Paul Simmons--issued "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Reverend Horton Heat," which features tracks from the trio's two releases on Interscope: 1996's "It's Martini Time" and 1998's "Space Heater."
